Nonneutral Plasma

The researches in non-neutral plasma physics have been carried out at the Andronikashvili Institute of Physics since 1965. The object of researches is gas-discharge non-neutral electron plasma, which is investigated in discharge devices of magnetron, inverted magnetron and Penning cell types.

The aim of the researches is to study the physical processes taking place in plasma, the equilibrium conditions of plasma, the mechanisms of electron transport across the magnetic field, the mechanisms of formation of anomalous electrons, the study of the influence of the asymmetry of electric and magnetic fields on plasma sheath structure and on neoclassical transport of electrons across the magnetic field.

The aim of the researches is as well to study the non-uniformities of non-neutral electron plasma, the conditions of their formation, the formation of vortex structures from them, the dynamics and the interaction of these structures, their role in electron transport processes, in the equilibrium of electron sheath and in the formation of electrons of anomalous energy.

The study of non-neutral plasma is necessary not only for explanation of the fundamental physical processes, but for scientific-technical application as well: magneto-electrostatic ion traps, trusters, cosmic vacuum meters, magnetron sprayed coating systems, etc.
