At the beginning of 1990-ies applied plasma research experiments started in our department.
First of all these were experiments for investigation of the possibility of decomposition and
neutralization of Freonnoxious substances and also noxious NOx substances in exhaust gasses by
means of pulsed CO2 laser radiation (λ = 10.6μ, E = 50 ÷ 180 J, τ = 1 μs) and spark discharges (U = 15÷25 kV, τ = 1÷10 μs ) of various configuration (point, linear, toroidal). Decomposition products
were identified and analysed mainly by means of infrared spectrometer Specord 75 IR.
Since 2015 applied research experiments continue in the field of low quality coal efficient
combustion in special design stationary plasma furnace. Special DC power supply (P=15 kW, I= 20÷150 A)
with rectangular Volt-Ampere characteristic for the furnace has been designed and
constructed in our department. Plasma combustion exhaust products analysis is performed by modern
infrared spectrometer Vertex 70 and electron microscope Teskan Vega 3 LMU.
At present the methods toobtain the nanopowders of various materials by means of our plasma arc
furnace together withtheir phisical-chemical properties are investigated.
